THE PROBLEM

Your mind won't stop spinning.

Something small goes wrong - a message, a meeting, a comment that lands badly - and your mind grabs it and won't let go. It pulls in things that happened years ago. It runs the same loop on repeat. You're sitting at your desk but you're not really there, and the best hours of your day quietly disappear into it.That loop runs in the body, below the level of thought. Which is why telling yourself to focus, or to just get on with it, only pulls you deeper in. You can't think your way out of something that didn't start as a thought.

THE REFRAME

It's a false alarm.

That spiral is almost always a false alarm your nervous system is running. It feels like the truth because your body is turning the volume right up on it.But it's a signal your body is generating, and a signal can be changed. You change it at the level of the body, by giving your nervous system the cue that it's safe to come down. The loop loses its fuel, and your clarity comes back. That's the whole job of this practice.

WHY I MADE THIS

I learned this on my honeymoon, of all places.
I'd had a brilliant year - we'd just bought our first place together and there we were on a beach in Sri Lanka. Then our breakfast came late and completely wrong, and that tiny thing tipped me into a full morning of self-doubt and anger and old memories that had nothing to do with breakfast. I could see it happening. I even talked to my wife about it. But I couldn't stop it colouring the whole morning. The setting was perfect, but what I felt inside was the opposite.
Walking back to our villa, I passed a man on a lounger reading a book, and the title was Wherever You Go, There You Are. I laughed out loud, because that was the exact thing I was waking up to. The beach, the year I'd had — none of it touched what was going on inside. That trip was the moment I decided to sort out the quality of my daily experience for good.I built this practice for myself a while later, when our first child arrived and my daily breathwork fell away. I didn't have the time or the energy for long, intense routines anymore, but I needed something I could reach for most days and feel quickly. So I went into the research and made this - sixteen minutes, the minimum that reliably does the job.My wife started using it, then her friends, and when I started coaching I saw the same thing everywhere: most people need to create a bit of space before they can create anything new.

THE PRACTICE

16 minutes.
Press play.
Follow my voice.

find somewhere quiet, sit or lie down, and press play. I take you through it: a few rounds of slow breathing to settle the system, a body scan to release where you're holding tension, and a stretch of stillness where the real work happens. You don't have to remember anything or get anything right. You just follow my voice.About halfway through, the practice moves into something that feels more abstract - imagining the body filling with light, softening, and dissolving. That part is deliberate, and there's a mechanism behind it. When you vividly imagine something, your brain engages much of the same circuitry it uses for real perception, so guiding the body toward softening produces a genuine physiological downshift. This kind of imagery also quiets the default mode network - the system behind rumination and the running commentary about yourself. Quiet that network, and the spiral has nothing left to run on.Visualisation is used in clinical practice for exactly this reason: it reaches the body directly, without routing through the thinking mind.
